70-member unicameral legislature, out of which 62 of whom are elected for a 5-year term and the remaining 8 - known as the "best losers" - appointed by the Supreme Court to ensure representation of the minority ethnicities and religions. The National Assembly succeeds the Legislative Assembly upon the proclamation of the Republic in 1992.
