Princeton is a statutory Type A city with a Mayor/Council form of government. The City Council is the primary legislative body for the City of Princeton and is responsible for setting the policies and priorities for the city. The mayor and four councilors are elected at large: the Mayor serves a 2-year term, and the City Council Members each serve a 4-year term. The Mayor and two of the four Council Members are up for election at the general election held in the even numbered years.
The City Council holds regular meetings at 7:00 PM on the 2nd and the 4th Thursdays of each month. The City Council also has a 'study session' at 4:30 PM on the first Thursday of each month. (Please check the Events Calendar for special meetings). Most City Council meetings are held in the Council Chambers of City Hall, located at 705 2nd St North.
