Description Head of state and commander of the armed forces from 1932 to 2025, and head of government beginning January 29, 2025. Upon the de jure repeal of the 2012 constitution of Ba'athist Syria on January 29, 2025, the Office of the President and structure of the Syrian government was re-formed as a presidential system under the American model. The duties of the prime minister and deputy prime minister, which included composing and leading a council of ministers, were assumed by the President under this new system, and their offices were abolished effective March 29, 2025. The President's term of office remains unspecified.
