The Town of Waxhaw has a council-manager form of government that recognizes the Board of Commissioners as its governing body, which consists of a Mayor and five Board members who are elected at-large by the public on a nonpartisan basis and serve part-time. Each Board member is elected for a four-year term with three Board members being elected every two years. Regular municipal elections are held for the Town of Waxhaw every two years in odd-numbered years.
The Waxhaw Board of Commissioners holds regularly scheduled meetings on the second and fourth Tuesday of the month at 6:30 pm.
