Info | Rep. Mary Kasten, a Republican, represents most of Cape Girardeau County (District 158) in the Missouri House of Representatives.
Formerly, Rep. Kasten was an assistant teacher in the Laboratory School of the University of Pittsburgh and taught at Baldwin Township School.
She is a member of St. Andrews Lutheran Church and a former member of the Southeast Missouri University Board of Regents. Rep. Kasten has received the Friend of the Children Award and the Outstanding Women of Achievement Award. She served 20 years on the Cape Girardeau School Board, various civic committees and is former president of the Missouri School Board Association. Rep. Kasten is also the founder of the Cape Girardeau Community Caring Council.
Significant legislative accomplishments for Rep. Kasten include sponsoring legislation concerning children's and family issues.
A graduate of Matthews High School, Rep. Kasten received a bachelor of science degree in education from Southeast Missouri State University in 1949, then attended the University of Pittsburgh.
Born June 6, 1928, Rep. Kasten resides in Cape Girardeau with her husband, Dr. Melvin C. Kasten. They have three children: Mark, Mike, and Margaret (Meg).
