Info | G’day
I’ve lived in Darwin since 1990. During this time I’ve been very active in the unique cultural life of the Northern Territory as a university lecturer, musician, actor, director, community artist, Aboriginal liaison worker, comedian, film-maker and prize-winning poet.
When I’m working in remote communities, I’m proud to be called a ‘culture business man’, I see politics as an important part of culture and my role as Greens candidate for the seat of Millner is one way I can help strengthen and advance the natural and cultural diversity of the Territory. I strongly believe that Greens Policies offer a sustainable approach to the future and look forward to responding to the needs and concerns of Territorians.
REAL JUSTICE
The old parties are talking tough on crime.
The Greens fought the CLP’s discriminatory mandatory sentencing policies in the past. We oppose the ALP’s current position on the same grounds. I believe that we instead need to work to overcome the situations that cause or encourage criminal activity, while helping people gain the self-respect needed to be empowered members of society.
YOUTH AND EDUCATION
Young people are our future. I will work to ensure they are provided with the educational and recreational opportunities they need to reach their fullest potential as creative, productive and respected members of our community. Access to quality education for all Australians is a Greens priority.
NATURE AND CULTURE
Most locals and visitors agree that the natural environment of the Territory is unique and inspiring, as is the diversity of culture, both traditional and contemporary. To me, our environment and our people are our most valuable assets deserving real support and respect. I will strive to provide appropriate recognition and protection of natural resources and the rights of all Territorians.
