Upon earning a degree in Computer Science from Pacific Lutheran University, Commissioner Hale pursued a career in the Western United States and Alaska in the field of information systems, utilizing his skills in developing computer programs and managing projects as an employee of MITRE Corporation, Digital Equipment Corporation and Momentum Graphics.
During his early career in Alaska, Mr. Hale married the former Anne Marie Gavai, originally from Dunkirk, Maryland and, in 1991, Mr. and Mrs. Hale returned to Calvert County to take up residence.
In December of 1991, Mr. Hale secured a position as Management Consultant with KPMG Peat Marwick, continuing his career in information technology. It was at this time that Commissioner Hale became active in local citizen's organizations.

In 1997, the Board of County Commissioners appointed David Hale to the Economic Development Commission where he served until his November 1998 election. He also served, since 1997, on the Tri-County Council's Southern Maryland Committee and the Tri-County Council's Economic Development Task Force. The mission of both committees is to develop a 20-year strategic plan for Southern Maryland and to protect the character of the Southern Maryland Region.
Commissioner Hale currently represents the County Commissioners on the following County boards: Economic Development Authority, MACo Legislative Committee and the Southern Maryland Tri-County Council Executive Committee.
