Info | Denise Freeman was little more than an unknown political hopeful back in 1998 when she lost her first battle against incumbent U.S. Rep. Charlie Norwood, R-Evans.
If there was a silver lining in that election loss, it might have been the fact that Ms. Freeman, D-Lincolnton, collected 41 percent of the vote in the 10th District and she matched Mr. Norwood vote for vote in Richmond County.
The race was lost in Columbia County, where Mr. Norwood enjoyed a 4-1 advantage in the votes, sending him to Congress.
Ms. Freeman, 43, is an ordained baptist minister and also the Chief Executive Officer of Citizens United for Rural Empowerment. A Piedmont College graduate, Ms. Freeman is a former member of the Lincoln County School Board. She is married and has four children.
In her election campaign, Ms. Freeman promises to be a visible working member of Congress. She says Mr. Norwood has disappeared when it comes to being a leader and representative for the 10th District.
