John, a member of a third-generation Northern Arizona family, was born at Grand Canyon Village and attended elementary and high school there.
He received his Bachelors Degree in 1962 and his JD Degree in 1965, both from the University of Arizona.
John served as a Captain in the U.S. Army from 1965 to 1970.
John and his wife, Linda, have three grown children, Melanie, Jay and Greg. Melanie is married to Dan Pate and they have John's first grandchild, Ryan Pate.
