InfoIn 1983, the frequent juxtaposition of unemployed and overworked individuals among his counselling caseload convinced Bruce O'Hara that there had to be a better and more balanced way to apportion work hours. He founded 'Work Well', Canada's first work option resource centre, to promote voluntary arrangements to reduce and restructure work times.

O'Hara's 1988 self-help guide to work options, 'Put Work In Its Place', has become a widely recommended resource. By the early 1990's, O'Hara felt the need for a big-picture analysis of the linkages between endemic overwork and mass unemployment. His 1993 book 'Working Harder Isn't Working' stimulated widespread debate in Canada, and made O'Hara a popular keynote speaker. In 2001, O'Hara's long-standing practice of voluntary simplicity enabled him to reach financial independence at the age of 50. As he began exploring his new freedom, O'Hara became curious about the more general issue of how to find and enjoy a robust freedom in the second half of life; his new book, 'Enough Already!: Breaking Free in the Second Half of Life' is the result.

When not off adventuring with his partner Adriana, Bruce lives in Courtenay, British Columbia. He can be reached by email at besohara@yahoo.ca
