Info | Prior to his appointment as U.S. Ambassador to Eritrea, Scott H. DeLisi was the Director for Southern African Affairs.
Mr. Scott H. DeLisi is a career Foreign Service Officer who joined the Foreign Service in 1981. He has been assigned in Bombay, India as vice-consul; Antananarivo, Madagascar as economic/commercial officer; and Islamabad, Pakistan as political officer. In Colombo, Sri Lanka, Mr. DeLisi served as chief of the political section. He has also held positions in Washington in the Bureau for South Asian Affairs and in the Bureau for Intelligence and Research.
Most recently, Mr. DeLisi served as Deputy Chief of Mission in Gaborone, Botswana from 1997-2001. He became the Office Director for Southern African Affairs in August of 2001. He was promoted to the Senior Foreign Service, rank of Counselor in October 2000.
A native of St. Paul, Minnesota, Mr. DeLisi, is a graduate of the University of Minnesota and the University of Minnesota Law School. He was also a Humphrey Fellow at the Hubert H. Humphrey Institute of Public Affairs.
Mr. DeLisi has been the recipient of the James Clement Dunn Award for Excellence, the DIA Director’s Award, four Superior Honor, and two Meritorious Honor Awards. His foreign languages include French and Urdu.
He and his wife, Leija, have three children.
