Info | A second generation naval aviator from Corpus Christi, Juan M. Garcia III graduated with Honors from the University of California at Los Angeles and delivered the 1988 UCLA Commencement speech. In 1992 he graduated with a Juris Doctorate from Harvard Law School, and a Masters in Public Policy from Harvard's John F. Kennedy School of Government.
After completing Naval Aviation Officer Candidate School and Flight Training, Garcia received his "Wings of Gold" at Naval Air Station Corpus Christi, and was assigned to Patrol Squadron FORTY-SEVEN in Barber's Point, Hawaii. He flew 30 armed missions in the Persian Gulf, including an emergency landing in a sandstorm.
In 1998, Lieutenant Commander Garcia reported to U.S. Naval Headquarters London, as the Flag Aide to the Deputy Commander in Chief of U.S. Naval Forces in Europe. While there he served as the aide-de-camp to the Task Force Director during Operation Allied Force in Kosovo.
In 1999 LCDR Garcia was one of 16 Americans selected to serve as a White House Fellow, the nation's premier leadership development program, whose alumni include Henry Cisneros and Colin Powell. While in Washington, Garcia served as the Special Assistant to the U.S. Secretary of Education. In 2000 LCDR Garcia reported to the aircraft carrier USS CONSTELLATION homeported in San Diego, CA and deployed to the Persian Gulf in support of the enforcement of the No-Fly Zone over Southern Iraq.
Garcia left the active duty Navy in October 2004, and continues to serve as an Instructor Pilot at Naval Air Station Corpus Christi, with the Naval Reserves. His military awards include the Joint Commendation Medal, the Naval Commendation Medal, and the Naval Achievement Medal.
While practicing law, Garcia chairs the Board of Citizens for Educational Excellence, serves on the Board of Governors for Leadership Corpus Christi, the Corpus Christi Barrios Association, the Surfrider Environmental Group, is a certified legal volunteer at the Corpus Christi Women's Shelter, and an on-air host for the area's PBS television affiliate.
LCDR Garcia is married to a Harvard Law classmate, the former Denise Giraldez of New York. They have twin six-year old sons, Jackson Emiliano and Lucas Caesar, a four-year old daughter, Calista Rose, and a one-year old, Alexander Hector. info@garciafortexas.com
