Info | Jamie was born in Oxford in 1975, returning with his parents to take over the family dairy and sheep farm in Orkney in 1979. He was educated at Radley College, Oxford before going on to study at Exeter University. In 1999, he was elected General Secretary of the Guild of Students, a sabbatical office with responsibility for finance, commercial activities and societies.
Jamie worked in London for the Financial Times, before returning to Orkney. He now works as Press Officer in the Scottish Parliament for Jamie McGrigor, Ted Brocklebank and Brian Monteith MSPs. This role allows him to work on a number of issues of particular interest to him and of relevance to Moray, such as fishing and rural matters.
Jamie is a keen sportsman, receiving his colours at Exeter University, and he continues to play rugby, football, squash and other sports. He has a strong interest in Scottish and local history, and also enjoys reading and walking. He has travelled to Russia and Syria, and is currently learning Gaelic.
Jamie first joined the Conservative Party nearly a decade ago, having started out as a Conservative student. In 1999, he was selected as an NUS Conference Delegate for the Guild of Students at Exeter.
In 2003, as an Executive Member of Orkney Conservative and Unionist Association, Jamie worked on the Scottish Parliament election campaign. The Liberal Democrats suffered a swing of nearly 15% to the Conservatives.
Jamie co-founded and is Chairman of the Hirsel Club in Edinburgh, which aims to encourage informed debate on current political events and ideologies. At 28 years old, Jamie will fight to win Moray - proof that age is no barrier in the Conservative Party.
