Info | Mrs. Ellen Howe Craswell
State House 1977-1981
State Senate 1981-1993
Ellen Craswell was the Republican candidate for Governor in 1996, after serving in the State House for four years and the State Senate for twelve years. Craswell is a very religious Evangelical Christian, and a strong advocate of conservative Christian values.
Craswell left the Republican Party in 1998, joining the American Heritage Party, the Washington affiliate of the US Taxpayer's Party. Despite the high-profile move by Ellen and her husband, Bruce, there was little vote-splitting among Republicans in the elections following their switch. The only potential political casualty was Rep. Rick White, who lost a narrow re-election bid in Washington's 1st Congressional district, after losing some votes to Bruce Craswell.
