Info | born in Cynthiana, Harrison County, Ky., February 22, 1877; attended the public schools and Smith’s Classical School for Boys; studied law at the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor 1897-1899; was admitted to the bar in 1899 and commenced practice in Cynthiana, Ky.; prosecuting attorney of Harrison County, Ky., 1902-1906; moved to Spokane, Wash., in May 1906; chief assistant prosecuting attorney for Spokane County 1907-1909; judge of the superior court of Spokane County 1909-1916; lecturer on criminal and elementary law in Gonzaga University, Spokane, Wash.; associate justice of the State supreme court 1916-1918; elected as a Republican to the Sixty-sixth, Sixty-seventh, and Sixty-eighth Congresses and served from March 4, 1919, to May 8, 1923, when he resigned to become United States district judge for the eastern district of Washington, in which capacity he served until August 31, 1939, when he retired due to ill health; was a resident of Spokane, Wash., until his death there on December 24, 1962; remains were cremated and the ashes interred in the Oakesdale Cemetery, Oakesdale, Wash.
