Info | DOUGLAS, Fred James, a Representative from New York; born in Clinton, Worcester County, Mass., September 14, 1869; moved with his parents to Little Falls, N.Y., in 1874; attended the public schools, and was graduated from the medical department of Dartmouth College, Hanover, N.H., in 1895; moved to Utica, N.Y., the same year and commenced the practice of medicine; member of the board of education of Utica 1910-1920; mayor of Utica 1922-1924; commissioner of public safety of Utica in 1928 and 1929; unsuccessful candidate for Lieutenant Governor of New York in 1934; elected as a Republican to the Seventy-fifth and to the three succeeding Congresses (January 3, 1937-January 3, 1945); unsuccessful candidate for renomination in 1944; resumed his former profession as a surgeon; died in Utica, N.Y., January 1, 1949; interment in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Whitesboro, N.Y.
