InfoEmory McCord Folmar was born in Pike County, Alabama, the son of Marshall Bibb and Miriam Pearson Folmar. Emory Folmar attended the grammar and high schools of Troy and Montgomery, Alabama. After high school he enrolled at the University of Alabama and earned a B.S. Degree in Business.

Emory Folmar served in the United States Army from 1951 to 1954 and was in combat as a company commander in Korea. During his military service, he received numerous medals for bravery and leadership, including the Silver Star, Bronze Star, and Purple Heart.

He is married to Anita Pierce Folmar. They are the parents of three children and grandparents of three.

Emory Folmar engaged in the development and construction of shopping centers. In l975 he was elected to the Montgomery City Council. In 1977 he began his tenure as Mayor of Montgomery, a position he held until November 1999.

Emory Folmar is an Elder in the Trinity Presbyterian Church. He has given of his time and leadership to his constituents and to many civic and charitable organizations that work for the good of his community.

He is the recipient of local, state, and national honors for leadership and compassion
