Info | born near Leasburg, Crawford County, Mo., on April 14, 1869; attended the public schools of his native city; taught school in Leasburg, Mo.; attended the University of Missouri at Columbia; was graduated from Missouri Medical College at St. Louis in 1892; moved to New Athens, St. Clair County, Ill., in the same year and commenced the practice of medicine; chairman of the Republican county central committee 1898-1924; moved to Belleville, St. Clair County, Ill., in 1903 and continued the practice of medicine; coroner of St. Clair County 1904-1908; elected president of the Belleville Bank & Trust Co. in 1910; delegate to the Republican National Convention in 1920; elected as a Republican to the Sixty-ninth, Seventieth, and Seventy-first Congresses (March 4, 1925-March 3, 1931); chairman, Committee on Claims (Seventy-first Congress); unsuccessful candidate for reelection in 1930 to the Seventy-second Congress; resumed the practice of his profession; died in Belleville, Ill., January 30, 1933; interment in Green Mount Cemetery.
