| Info | Andrew McDonald was elected State Senator for the 27th District (serving Stamford and Darien) in November 2002, and was re-elected in November 2004.
Prior to his election, he most recently served as Director of Legal Affairs and Corporation Counsel for the City of Stamford from 1999-2002, overseeing and managing all legal, human resource and labor related functions of the city. He also served on the Stamford Board of Finance from 1995-1999, as the board's chairman from 1997-1999, and as Co-Chair of the Audit Committee, from 1995-1997, as well as on the Stamford Board of Representatives from the Cove from 1993-1995.
An attorney who was born in the Glenbrook section of Stamford and resides there still, Andrew McDonald is a graduate of the Stamford Public Schools (Stark, Dolan and Stamford High School). He received his Bachelor's Degree in Government from Cornell University, and a Doctorate of Law from the University of Connecticut School of Law, where he graduated with honors. He served as Managing Editor of the Connecticut Journal of International Law and is currently a litigation partner with Pullman & Comley, LLC, in Stamford.
Andrew McDonald has a long record of community service in Stamford, including being a member of the Stamford School Readiness Council, the Stamford Open Space Task Force, the Stamford Partnership Board of Directors, the Affordable Housing Planning Coalition, the Board of Directors of the Women's Business Development Center, Connecticut's representative on the Tri-State Waterborne Transportation Task Force, and the Board of Incorporators of the United Way of Stamford.
He has worked for a number of issues and causes that had greatly benefited the City of Stamford, including negotiating crucial parts of the Urban Transitway Project to improve traffic flow in Stamford and at the Transportation Center; winning protection for more than 250 acres of open space for the City of Stamford, including the Bartlett Arboretum and Treetops and targeted for protection acres of new lands as a member of the Open Space Task Force; authoring legislation to protect existing affordable housing in Stamford with a One-for-One replacement policy; crafting the law against blighted housing in Stamford; and leading the charge for greater budget accountability among city departments and a stronger alignment of budget dollars with goals.
