| Info | Herseth was born in Houghton, South Dakota. He attended Northern State Teachers College and North Dakota State College. He was married to Lorna Herseth and lived on a ranch near Houghton. Lorna later became the state's Secretary of State. His son Lars Herseth was Majority Leader of the State Senate, and his granddaughter Stephanie Herseth was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 2004 to fill the seat opened by the resignation of Bill Janklow.
