Info | Manning was a candidate for superior court judge in 1896 and received the highest vote for any Democratic candidate running statewide (although he lost the race). He also received scattering write-in votes for several other offices that same year.
Associate Justice of the NC Supreme Court 1909- 1911 (defeated for re-nomination 1910). Manning was a member of the Ku Klux Klan (Gastonia Gazette, 1/20/1949).
