InfoSadie Moore Stewart was born in 1951 in Tuskegee, Alabama and was raised in the community of Chehaw. Her political career began when she was elected Senior Class President at Tuskegee Institute High School. Sadie attended Southern Methodist University (1969-1972) and was active in campus civil rights, peace and women's movements. She was Vice President of the Freshman Forum and participated in the first Women's Symposium in the country that included Gloria Steinem and the late Anthropologist Margaret Mead. After an interlude for military service, marriage and raising a son, Sadie completed undergraduate studies in 1987 with a BA in English Literature from Huntingdon College, Montgomery, Alabama. She then completed a law degree from Mississippi College School of Law in 1990.

Sadie joined the United States Air Force in 1973 and became the first female crew chief at Tyndall Air Force Base, Florida. After transferring to Lowry AFB, Colorado, she trained as a Mental Health Technician and received the Meritorious Service Award for rehabilitation work with military personnel undergoing court-martials. Sadie was honorably discharged in 1979.

For two years Sadie lived in Ankara, Turkey and worked as a civilian with the Joint United Services Military Aid To Turkey program including the period of the American hostage crisis in neighboring Iran. During this time she had the experience of living under martial law, which was imposed because of terrorism and anti-American sentiments.

After returning to the US, Sadie graduated from the Alabama Peace Officers Training Academy and worked as a Corrections Officer and Director of a privately operated Federal community treatment center until returning to college. During the summers while at law school, she clerked with former Cleveland Chief Prosecutor, Almeta A. Johnson. After receiving her law degree, Sadie worked in Florida as a Public Defender and had a private law practice there.

Sadie's family moved to Cleveland in 1975 and she has considered Ohio a second home for over 25 years. Sadie returned to Ohio in 1997 after being diagnosed with Sjogrens/Lupus. Her disease is in remission having responded to treatment, thus providing her the perfect opportunity to contribute to transforming politics.
