Info | CULLEN, William, a Representative from Illinois; born in County Donegal, Ireland, March 4, 1826; immigrated to the United States in 1832 with his parents, who settled in Pittsburgh, Pa.; attended the public schools and the Allegheny Academy at Pittsburgh; moved to Adams Township, La Salle County, Ill., in 1846 and engaged in agricultural pursuits; sheriff of La Salle County in 1864 and 1865; moved to Ottawa, La Salle County, Ill., in 1865; political editor of the Ottawa Republican 1871-1887; elected as a Republican to the Forty-seventh and Forty-eighth Congresses (March 4, 1881-March 3, 1885); unsuccessful candidate for renomination in 1884; lived in retirement in Ottawa, Ill., until his death there January 17, 1914; interment in Ottawa Avenue Cemetery.
