Former Secretary-General of the PRI, was removed from the position by longtime foe, party leader Roberto Madrazo, which spawned the defection of Roberto Campa to create the New Alliance Party. Gordillo is still a PRI member but many of her supporters have since left to New Alliance.
Gordillo has also served in the Chamber of Deputies and the Senate.
