Info | President Trump appointed Jeff Kahrs as Regional Director of Region 7 of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services in November of 2017. As a presidential appointee, Kahrs provided executive leadership as the primary representative to the Secretary of Health and Human Services, overseeing HHS activities in Kansas, Missouri, lowa, Nebraska and working with nine tribes.
Most recently, he served as a senior advisor and district director for Congressman Jake LaTurner. Prior to that, Kahrs worked as the deputy secretary and chief of staff for the Kansas Department for Children and Families. He led the effort to transform the state's outdated social services agency into one that promotes healthy families and encourages personal responsibility.
Before joining state government, Kahrs spent 16 years as a congressional staff member, working as a legislative director for U.S. Congressman Todd Tiahrt of Kansas, eventually becoming Tiahrt's chief of staff in 2000. In that role, he developed extensive knowledge of the House appropriations process.
Kahrs is a fourth-generation Kansan, who grew up in Wichita. He earned a bachelor of business degree in business management from Wichita State University. He graduated with honors from Washburn University School of Law where he served as research editor on the Washburn Law Review. He served for two years as a law clerk for the chief justice of the Kansas Supreme Court.
Kahrs and his wife Felita live in Topeka with their sons, Samuel and William where they are active members of the Topeka Baptist Church.
