| Info | Commissioner Billie Jo Underwood was born in Foley, Alabama, and is a life-long resident of Baldwin County. Commissioner Underwood and her husband, Gary, a Foley native, reside in Summerdale, Alabama.
Commissioner Underwood is a graduate of Foley High School (1985) and in recognition of her outstanding high school basketball career, Foley High School inducted her into its Athletic Hall of Fame in 2009. Commissioner Underwood earned her Associates Degree in Business Administration from James H. Faulkner State Jr. College and is a graduate of the University of South Alabama where she earned her Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting.
A Certified Public Accountant, Commissioner Underwood has over thirty years of experience in financial and tax accounting and is a partner at Giles, Underwood and Wilson, LLC in Summerdale, Alabama. She also helps to run the family business, Underwood Pecan Farm.
Commissioner Underwood is a past member of the Baldwin County Planning and Zoning Commission (2008-2012) and the Town of Summerdale’s Planning Commission (1996-2018).
Commissioner Underwood was selected as the 2021 Nappie Award Winner for the hardest working Baldwin County elected official and is a recipient of the 2021 Central Baldwin Chamber’s Good Government Award, and the 2022 Outstanding Elected Official Award from the Area VI Soil and Water Conservation Districts. Commissioner Underwood is passionate about preserving and protecting Baldwin County’s quality of life and natural resources; she is looking forward to seeing the recycling facility and landfill gas recovery projects completed for the solid waste landfills owned and operated by the Baldwin County Commission.
Commissioner Underwood enjoys working on the family farm during the pecan harvesting season in the fall, is an avid sports fan and has a passion for deep sea fishing. She is a lifelong member of the Summerdale Assembly of God Church.
A Republican, Commissioner Underwood is currently serving her second term on the Baldwin County Commission (Terms: 2018-2022, 2022-2026).
