Info | PRALL, Anning Smith, a Representative from New York; born in Port Richmond, Staten Island, N.Y., September 17, 1870; attended the public schools and New York University; employed as a clerk in a New York City newspaper office; was in charge of a real estate department of a bank 1908-1918; served as clerk of the first district municipal court; appointed a member of the New York City Board of Education January 1, 1918, and served until December 31, 1921, and three times elected its president; commissioner of taxes and assessment in 1922 and 1923; delegate to the Democratic National Convention in 1924; elected as a Democrat to the Sixty-eighth Congress to fill the vacancy caused by the death of Daniel J. Riordan; reelected to the Sixty-ninth and to the four succeeding Congresses and served from November 6, 1923, to January 3, 1935; was not a candidate for renomination in 1934; served as a member and chairman of the Federal Communications Commission from January 15, 1935, until his death at his summer home in Boothbay Harbor, Maine, July 23, 1937; interment in Moravian Cemetery, New Dorp, Staten Island, N.Y.
