Info | Evergreen is an OX for the People, a phrase that symbolized a honest politician.
Evergreen C. Chou came to the United States from Taiwan when he was 9 years old. His parents were originally from the Chinese provinces of Jiangsi and Liaoning.
Evergreen graduated from Downstate Medical Center in Flatbush, Brooklyn with a Bachelor of Science. He works as a Diagnostic Medical Sonographer at Lutheran Medical Center for 23 years. He is a proud member of 1199 SEIU United Healthcare Workers East, and was an union delegate for 12 years.
The Green Party’s Ralph Nader/Winona LaDuke presidential ticket in 1996 sparked his interest in politics. For once it seemed there would be an opportunity to vote for a party with candidates who cared about issues like the health of the environment, the health of our bodies and the health of our economy. No longer did voters have to settle for the lesser of two evils.
In 1998, “Grandpa” Al Lewis won ballot status for the Green Party, and again in 2010 it was Howie Hawkins who regained ballot status in New York State for the Green Party.
Evergreen has run for City Council and NY State Assembly as a Green Party candidate in 2001, 2002, 2004, 2006 and 2008. His political policies have always been guided by the Green Ten Key Values of Ecological and Environmental Wisdom, Social and Economic Justice, Democracy, Decentralization, Community Economics, Feminism, Respect for Diversity, Personal and Global Responsibility and Future Focus.
Evergreen and his wife DayStar, have been married for 23 years. They have lived in Flushing, New York for the last 16 years.
