Info | I'm a librarian and administrative faculty at George Mason Law Library who's lived in the DMV since 1999, so local and national issues are nothing new to me. I live in Manassas now and love it.
I grew up in a family of 5 children, so I know what it’s like to have to find consensus. I'm pretty sure several of my family members are Republicans, so I understand where the other side is coming from. Our country is so divided now, and we need to elect someone who will reach out with respect but also stand their ground for what we believe. I am a “happy warrior,” and I’d be glad to sit down with anyone and work to find common ground.
I attended law school (where I was friends and classmates with Jaime Harrison, current DNC chair). But I didn’t like working for private clients. I wanted to work for the public. So I started out at the law library. I know what it’s like to work your way up, because taking the train home after midnight from the late shift when you have an advanced degree and are already pushing 40 is humbling. I saw a lot of crime on those trips, so I understand firsthand why it’s an issue for voters. I've had other experience too: when I was younger, I taught English in China and learned what that country was like. So the behavior of the Chinese government and other authoritarian regimes doesn't surprise me in the least. My beliefs come from real, observed life, and I will apply that to my role as Representative.
Along the way, I volunteered for Democratic campaigns. I started out with Chuck Schumer’s first Senate campaign in 1998. At first they thought I was a spy from the other side since I was always hanging around, but I eventually won them over. I was a deputy field organizer in Virginia Beach For Obama/Biden '08. More recently I was knocking on doors in York, PA in 2020 and around the 10th district this year. I’ve always liked the business of campaigning, when you’re speaking to people and getting to know them and their concerns. I intend to be a very responsive Representative.
So now it’s time for me to throw my hat in the ring and speak up for what I believe. When Democrats are at their best, there is no greater party around, and I want us to achieve that again. I hope people will hear me out. Whatever happens, I will do my best to give the 10th district a real choice.
