InfoOriginally from southern Oregon, I moved to Boulder with my wife to raise our two small girls with a car-lite lifestyle near the mountains.

I’ve held public service roles since I joined the Peace Corps as a volunteer in the early 2000s. That experience awakened me to something not yet considered a mainstream issue: climate change. My work as a volunteer helped me see that an increasingly hostile climate would undermine communities and hurt people with the least resources the most.

After I returned from the Peace Corps, I joined the innovative consultancy, Business for Social Responsibility (BSR). In my work at BSR, I learned how to work with a diverse set of stakeholders—everyone from governments to corporations to community groups—to achieve ambitious goals.

About a decade ago, I became increasingly concerned about transportation systems. Between fatal crashes and air pollution, cars are one of the leading causes of death in America. They are also one of the largest sources of carbon pollution.

In 2015, I began advising governments and communities on how to design more sustainable, safe, and affordable transportation systems. I helped develop policies and programs that save people money, cut air pollution, and lead cities to achieve their climate goals.

Then in 2021, I was appointed to Boulder’s Transportation Advisory Board (TAB). As a board member, I have advised city council and staff on the design of a new protected bikeway grid called the Core Arterial Network (CAN).

Throughout my career, one common thread has been business. I grew up in a small-town family retail store. I earned an undergraduate degree in finance, followed by an MBA. At each step in my career, I’ve provided advisory services to for-profit companies. Collectively, these experiences have helped me to develop sensibilities for making good investment decisions and managing successful operations.

I’m running for City Council because I want to improve our transportation and housing options, accelerate our response to the climate crisis, and make Boulder a safer, more inclusive, and more sustainable place to call home.
