InfoJohn Bonacic was elected to the New York State Senate in November, 1998. He is currently serving his third term in the State Senate and represents all or parts of Delaware, Sullivan, Orange and Ulster Counties. He previously served from 1990 through 1998 in the New York State Assembly.

John Bonacic was born on June 14, 1942, in New York City. He received his Bachelor of Arts Degree at Iona College in 1964, majoring in Economics. He received his Doctorate of Law at Fordham Law School in 1968. Presently, he is Of Counsel to the law firm of Bonacic, Blustein, and Krahulik, LLP in Middletown, Orange County. He has also worked as an Assistant District Attorney for Orange County. Mr. Bonacic is also admitted to the practice of law in the State of New Jersey.

John was first elected to public office in 1972 when he became an Orange County Legislator. He was re-elected to this post four times, serving a total of 17 years. For part of that time, he served as Majority Leader and Chairman of the Legislature.

Since 1999, Senator Bonacic has been Chairman of the Senate Committee on Housing, Construction, and Community Development. He also is Co-Chairperson of the Senate Task Force on Health and Wellness. In that position, he guided the landmark Women's Health and Wellness Act into law in 2002. That legislation has given the women of New York what advocates call the "strongest healthcare protection in the nation".

Senator Bonacic has two adult children, Scott and Melissa, and resides in the Town of Mount Hope, Orange County, with his wife, Pat.
