Info | Democratic 8th Ward Alderman Todd Stroger was born and raised on the South Side of Chicago in the Chatham-Avalon community. He now owns and resides in his childhood home with his devoted wife Jeanine and their son, Hans Eric, and daughter, Claire. Every Sunday, the Stroger family attends St. Felicita's, where Todd went to church as a youth.
Todd is a family man who comes from a long tradition of public service. His father, John H. Stroger, Jr., former president of the Cook County Board of Commissioners and 8th Ward Democratic Committeeman, spent more than three decades serving the people, helping bring much-needed social services to the community.
Todd Stroger was appointed by Mayor Richard Daley to fill the office of the late Alderman Lorraine Dixon on September 5, 2001 and was elected to that office in February 2003. As an Alderman, Stroger has been instrumental in bringing affordable housing for all income levels, along with much-needed commercial development, to the community; assisting our neighborhoods in their beautification efforts; aiding in street, sidewalk, and curb repairs; organizing one of the largest community back-to-school events in the city; and sponsoring numerous free summer sports programs for children in the community.
Prior to taking office with the city, Todd Stroger served 10 years in Springfield as the State Representative of the 31st Legislative District. He quickly took on a leadership role, becoming Chairman of the House Labor & Commerce and Local Government Committees. Todd also served as a member of the Environment & Energy, Insurance, Personnel & Pension, Computer Technology, Financial Institutions, Human Services and Health Committees.
As a State Representative, Todd worked intimately on issues affecting the daily lives of Cook County residents. From controlling taxes and spending to providing affordable health care, Todd Stroger consistently led Democratic efforts to reform state government, improve the quality of life in Illinois, and bring social justice to all citizens.
Todd's career in public service began as an employee for the Office of the Chief Judge of Cook County, where he served as Jury Supervisor to the Cook County Jury Commissioners and administrative assistant for the Chicago Park District. His professional experience also includes work as an investment banker at SBK-Brooks Investment Corporation.
Alderman Stroger graduated from Xavier University in New Orleans, Louisiana, in 1988 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in History. He also completed course work in computer training from DePaul University in 1991.
Todd's quest to become the next President of the Cook County Board is a natural extension of what he's been doing his entire career: helping and investing in people. As our Democratic nominee, Todd Stroger will bring the same kind of experience and dedication to the community he brought to the jobs of Alderman and State Representative. Todd and his family are proud to be standing with and fighting for you.
