Info | Shea and his wife Colleen Martin have lived in the same house in the Sunset Hill neighborhood of Ballard for more than 30 years. When they moved in, it was said of the neighborhood that you were either newly wed or nearly dead. Fast forward 30 years, and it has been a great place to live and raise a family. Their daughter Megan (28) lives in San Francisco and their son Daniel (24) is still in Seattle.
But the last few years have seen changes in Ballard—and all around District 6—not necessarily for the better. That’s why Shea is running for City Council: to make our city a place that works for everybody, not just those who occupy our sidewalks and parks to the exclusion of the many.
Shea is a solo practitioner lawyer, mainly helping clients with business formation, buying and selling businesses, and accessing capital. Colleen is also a lawyer. Before going back to law school, Shea spent five years as a financial statement auditor for a large multinational public accounting firm. Both of these skills will come in handy on the City Council.
In their spare time, Shea and Colleen like to travel. Some favorite weekend getaways include Port Townsend, Winthrop and Walla Walla. More recently, Vancouver and Victoria, BC are back on the list. They also like to camp and hike, although that has become less frequent since the kids left for school and then got jobs. Shea enjoys cooking, too, and is in his element having friends over for a good barbecue out in the backyard. And every Mother’s Day, rain or shine, he makes ribs for Colleen, with the meat falling off the bone.
