Info | a Delegate and a Representative from Maryland; born near Leonardtown, St. Marys County, Md., in 1756; received a limited schooling; served as a first lieutenant, captain, and major in Maryland forces in the Revolutionary War; wounded at the Battle of Germantown and lost a leg at the Battle of Brandywine; Member of the Continental Congress in 1787; elected to the Third Congress and served from March 4, 1793, to November 8, 1794, when he resigned; commissioned major general of Maryland Militia in 1795; clerk of the circuit court of the District of Columbia 1800-1805; died at his home, “Rosedale,” near Georgetown, D.C., July 6, 1805; interment in Oak Hill Cemetery, Washington, D.C.
