Info | John A. Luetkemeyer was born on February 12, 1910, in Cleveland, Ohio, the son of Gustave William and Julia (Lueke) Luetkemeyer. He attended Hill School, Pottsdown, Pa., Harvard University (A.B., 1933), and Harvard Law School. During World War II he served with the U.S. Marine Corps as a bomb disposal expert, being discharged in 1945 with the rank of Major.
Luetkemeyer, a banker with Equitable Trust Co. from 1934 until his retirement in 1975, held the positions of director and president. He also served as a director of Equitable Bancorporation, the Savings Bank of Baltimore, the Development Credit Corporation of Maryland, the Baltimore Association of Commerce, and the Greater Baltimore Committee.
John A. Luetkemeyer served as Treasurer of Maryland from 1963 until 1973 when he resigned because of ill health. He has been active in charitable organizations serving as trustee for Shepherd Pratt Hospital, Calvert School, Church Home and Hospital, Goucher College, and Evergreen House Foundation. He resides in Baltimore with his wife the former Anne Austin McLanahan. They are the parents of Anne, Jean Scott, and John A. Jr.
