Info | Representative Ross Paradis is serving his third term as a Maine House of Representative. He serves on the Transportation Committee, Criminal Justice and Public Safety and the House Standing Committee on Leaves of Absence . He is also a constant voice for the rural areas of Maine, which suffer from chronic high unemployment and outmigration.
Prior to his election to the Legislature, Rep. Paradis served on the Frenchville Board of Selectmen for 18 years and has been involved in community service for almost 40 years.
He is a native of the St. John Valley in northern Aroostook County. He was born in Ste. Agathe and raised in Frenchville, where he still resides. He is a graduate of Boston College with majors in English and French; he taught English, French and Latin for many years at Wisdom High School in Ste. Agathe and at Madawaska High School. He retired from teaching in June 2000.
Rep. Paradis has always been a staunch advocate for, and a strong defender of, the French language and Acadian culture in the St. John Valley. He is the co-founder of the Committee to Save Our French, immediate past president of Le Club Français, and past vice-president and current director of the Maine Acadian Heritage Council. In 1997 Ross and his wife Judy received the Acadian Achievement Award for outstanding contributions to the Acadian culture. In the state Legislature he founded the Francophone Caucus which meets regularly to advocate for the French language and culture. The Francophone Caucus sponsors the highly successful Franco-American Day at the Legislature in March of every year.
Ross has been happily married to former state senator Judy Ayotte for 33 years.
