Info | I was born and raised in the Denver metro area, and I love this city. I’m running for City Council because I believe in a stronger, safer and more vibrant Denver, and I want to help make that vision a reality.
For the past five years, I’ve served as a prosecutor in the Denver District Attorney’s Office, fighting crime while focusing on protecting some of our most vulnerable populations. I’ve prosecuted hundreds of cases against violent offenders and those who pose a threat to our community. I’ve also seen in my daily work how much of Denver’s crime stems from the basic problems that threaten the strong foundation of our city – lack of affordable housing, patchwork treatment systems for illness and addiction, inadequate public transportation and a diminishing confidence in public safety.
We are facing a serious housing shortage and an out-of-date transportation infrastructure, both critically important for us as we work to adapt to, and mitigate, the ongoing effects of climate change. We are experiencing both increased neighborhood safety concerns and much needed criminal and racial justice reforms. Covid has only added to our challenges, as our vibrant businesses have yet to fully rebound from the effects of a seemingly endless pandemic and our essential workers struggle to make ends meet.
I’ve seen firsthand what happens when our elected officials let us down. But I’ve also seen what’s possible when our government and our communities lift us up. I’m running for City Council At-Large to bring integrity and a fresh, practical, problem-solving approach to City Hall. I’m running so that all of our communities can rise together.
I believe it’s the job of our City Council members to lay the foundation for a good life: new solutions to fighting crime; streets that are safe whether you’re walking, biking, or driving; more affordable housing so that people can continue to call Denver home, generation after generation; and a sustainable economy that works for everyone.
I believe we can ensure that Denver’s best days lie ahead by tackling our biggest challenges head-on with smart, committed, and effective leadership. And that’s the kind of leadership I intend to offer as an At-large member of Denver’s City Council.
Almost three years ago, as I was biking home after a long day in court, I was hit by a pickup truck a few blocks from my home. I flew more than ten feet in the air, landed on my head and cracked my helmet in three places. Everything went dark. But after months of intense physical, cognitive and vision therapy, I was able to return to work. I was lucky. I had an incredible community of family, friends, and colleagues who lifted me up and urged me forward throughout my recovery.
So I know how important it is to fight for a better, safer world – not just for me and my family, but for all of us. After my crash, Denver city leaders approved a bike lane where I was hit and you can be sure: that bike lane will save lives.
