| Info | Sawin Millett is serving his fourth term in the Maine Legislature. Representative Millett was elected to the 104th and 105th Legislatures and served on the Education Committee. Representative Millett was also chosen for the Joint Select Committee on Health Care Reform in the 121st Legislature. This Committee was instrumental in refining and improving the Governor’s bill, known as Dirigo Health Care, to provide affordable health insurance to small businesses and individuals and to control health care costs in Maine. In this his fourth term, he is the ranking Republican member of the Appropriations and Financial Affairs Committee.
Rep. Millett earned his undergraduate degree from Bates College and his Master’s Degree in Education from the University of Maine. He has had a remarkable career in public service working in Maine government as the Commissioner of Education (1975-79), the Commissioner of Finance (1978-91) and the Commissioner of Administrative & Financial Services (1991-95). He began his career as an educator and more recently acted as the western Maine regional director for the office of U.S. Senator Susan Collins.
Rep. Millett is also active in local and regional governmental, civic and fraternal affairs. He has served as Waterford’s Town Meeting Moderator for the past 25 years. He currently serves on the Boards of Directors of the Oxford Hills Growth Council and Volunteers of America and is a member of several Masonic bodies.
Rep. Millett represents District 95, which includes Greenwood, Norway, Waterford and West Paris. He resides in Waterford and is married with five children and seven grandchildren.
