Senator Peter Mills is currently serving his second consecutive term in the State Senate where he represents District 26, which includes parts of Somerset County. The senator had previously served in the Senate from 1994 to 2002, and in the State House of Representatives from 2002 to 2004. He is the Senate Republican lead on the Joint Standing Committee on Education and Cultural Affairs for the 123 rd Legislature, and had served as the Senate Republican lead on the Insurance and Financial Services Committee during the 122 nd Legislature. During other terms, he has been the Republican lead on the Taxation, Labor, Judiciary and Appropriations and Financial Affairs Committees.

For the past 23 years, the senator has owned, and practiced law at, Wright & Mills law firm in Skowhegan . He is a founding member of the Somerset Economic Development Corporation as well as a founding member of FirstPark, a successful business park that is bringing over 700 jobs to central Maine.


Senator Mills, an outspoken advocate for sensible change in tax policies and school funding systems, has worked with both parties to pass significant reforms in health care and education. He has earned a reputation as a coalition builder with practical and independent views, and a business-like approach to state finances.

He and wife, Nancy, currently reside in Skowhegan where they enjoy spending time with their three grown children and two grandchildren.
