InfoDéirdre Vaughan is the SDLP's Assembly candidate for North Down.

Born and raised in West Belfast, Déirdre moved to North Down in 2003 with her husband Tim. A graduate in English Literature from Queens University Belfast, Déirdre is a passionate advocate for lifelong learning obtaining a Masters from Ulster University in Communication and Public Relations in 2020.

Until 2019, she worked as an Underwriter and Business Development specialist within the Finance Sector. After which time, she launched her own Communications Partnership spearheading many creative and innovative campaigns for clients in a diverse range of industries such as Education, Manufacturing and Business Services. She worked as a Parliamentary Assistant for previous SDLP South Down MLA Sinead Bradley and is a committed SDLP activist.

Since moving to Holywood, Déirdre has enjoyed the community spirit which characterises the town and has sought to make a positive contribution. She has become involved in a range of community organisations, volunteering as a youth club leader, Scouting Ireland leader and advocate, Mother & Toddler group facilitator as well as regularly taking part in local beach clean events.
