Info | My name is Joshua Rodriguez, and I am running for California State Assembly District 69. I want to see our district maximize our potential while helping it to remain a safe and return to our common values under God. My parents immigrated to this great country after fleeing the horrors of the civil war in El Salvador. As a first-generation American, I appreciate and am eternally grateful for the opportunities the United States has afforded me and my family. When you hear the name “Joshua Rodriguez” you should think of a neighbor, a husband, a father, an active police officer, a college graduate, and a Marine Corps veteran.
I graduated high school in 2006 and joined the United States Marine Corps in 2007. During my five years of active duty, I worked as a military policeman. Traveling the world and learning about different cultures, I came to appreciate the rich diversity we have here in the U.S. I received several awards and commendations during my service while learning the valuable tools of leadership, proactive communication, conflict resolution, and inclusivity.
I continued my service to state and country in the California National Guard from 2012-2015, after which I was hired as a Police Officer by my current employer. No stranger to challenges, I was also a college student at this time, and in 2016 I graduated from Brandman University with my bachelor’s degree in Organizational Leadership.
One of the most valuable lessons I learned during my years of service is the importance of safety and community to a person’s well-being; and I have worked to help make that well-being more accessible for people with mental illnesses, disabled persons, homeless persons, and the general public, as well. It is with that same dedication I will serve you as your Assemblyman, and I will stand up for the levels of community safety and cleanliness that we deserve.
My wife was born and raised in Long Beach, she attended Long Beach schools, and both her parents graduated from CSULB. District 69 is our home, it is where I want to raise my family, its is a source of many lifelong friends, and warm memories.
I am not a politician, nor have I ever intended to be one. But I see the needs of our state, and I plan on making a difference for all of us. I believe in the power of the people, and that those who represent them should be unquestionably accountable and transparent in the political process. Standing on the sidelines is not an option for me; I chose to live my life as an example and to resonate change.
