Info | Monica Lindeen has proven herself as someone who knows how to set a goal, work with others, and get things done. Monica grew up the daughter of a hard working truck driver; her mother worked as a waitress and raised their family on a modest income. Lindeen learned from her parents the value of a hard days work, the value of an education, the value of reaching out to help another, and the value of family and community. This is the magic that is Montana.
Those who know Monica best say she has never met a challenge she didn’t like. She took those Montana values she learned from her parents and put herself through college at MSU-Billings, earning a teaching degree in English and History, and completing the majority of her master’s degree work while teaching part-time in the English Department and the Department of Educational Foundations. Monica was the first in her family to earn a college degree.
Through hard work with family and friends, Monica built a highly successful Internet business, Montana Communications Network (MCN), one of the first Montana-based, local providers in the high-tech industry. With the support of her loving husband, David, and their children, Dusty, Wes and Nick, she was able to serve the people of Montana in the State House of Representatives for four terms, representing the agricultural district that covers four counties from Billings to Miles City.
Throughout Monica’s tenure in the legislature, she has developed a reputation as a common sense, moderate, knowledgeable about how to get things done for Montana in the legislature while serving in various leadership roles and becoming a leading expert on the state budget. She doesn’t look at the party label someone wears-she looks for people who will help her find common sense solutions to make Montana a better place to work and live.
Monica is respected for her bipartisan efforts on economic development, successfully carrying legislation to create a workforce training program, an economic development trust fund, and other policies that will assist working families and help grow Montana businesses. She has brought all parties and interests to the table in order to find solutions to the school funding issue to ensure good schools for students without placing the burden on homeowners, family farmers, ranchers and small business.
Monica is a third generation Montanan. Her paternal grandparents farmed near Hardin. Monica has been married for 23 years to David Lindeen. David was born and raised on the Lindeen family ranch south of Pompey’s Pillar and is a retired lineman from Yellowstone Valley Electric Cooperative. Her daughter, Dusty, will begin her junior year in college this fall at the University of Montana where she hopes to become a physical therapist. Her two step-sons, Wes and Nick Lindeen, are both married and have blessed her with two grandchildren with a third due this November and a fourth in January of 2006.
