Info | Miner, merchant, banker. Lived in Colorado 1880-82, where he worked in contracting and "prospecting." Returned to Allegany County in 1882 and engaged in the mercantile business with his brothers Daniel F. and John P. McMullen under the name of McMullen Brothers & Company at Mount Savage and subsequently at Frostburg and Eckhart. Established with his two brothers the first department store in Cumberland, 1896. Co-founder, director and vice-president, Citizen's National Bank of Cumberland, 1900. Co-founder, Fidelity Savings Bank of Frostburg, 1902. Co-owner and operator of a coal mine in West Virginia after 1900. Co-founder, Stirling Coal Company in Daniel Boone, Kentucky, 1907. Comptroller of the treasury (Democrat), 1916-20. President, Liberty Trust Company, 1920-. Member of the executive committee, Maryland State Council of Defense.
