Info | Jim was elected City Treasurer in November 2002. He brings to the job more than 30 years of experience in financial positions in both the government and private sectors. He retired in 1996 as contracts manager with Teledyne Industries. In recent years he has served as treasurer of the Grossmont Healthcare District and as a consultant to KBR/Halliburton Corporation, a worldwide energy services company.
Jim Stieringer is a lifelong San Diegan and graduate of local schools. Following graduation from Grossmont High School he earned his bachelor of science degree from California Western University. He later received a master’s degree in management from Florida State University while serving as an Air Force Captain contracting officer at the Cape Canaveral Air Station.
His community service includes seven years as a San Diego County cable television commissioner and ten years as a member of the board of directors of the Grossmont Healthcare District.
Jim is a member of the Association of Public Treasurers and the Government Finance Officers Association. He also serves as a state director of the Association of California Healthcare Districts.
His primary duty as City Treasurer is investing surplus funds in the City Treasury in accordance with the California Government Code sections 53601, 53607 and 53635. Investment decisions are in accordance with Section 53600.5 of the California Government Code which takes into consideration the three objectives of safety, liquidity and yield.
