Info | Born and raised in the San Fernando Valley, Assembly Majority Leader Dario Frommer is the grandson of Mexican immigrants, and a product of California’s public schools.
During his tenure in the Assembly, Majority Leader Dario Frommer led the fight to improve access to health care and higher education in California while finding innovative ways to make taxpayer dollars work better for all Californians.
Frommer has introduced key legislation addressing California’s ailing health care system – including bills to expand health care coverage to working Californians, reining in runaway health care costs and increasing Californians’ access to affordable, lifesaving prescription drugs.
Following an investigation into allegations of price gouging by Tenet Healthcare Corporation, Frommer authored legislation that requires hospitals to disclose their price lists. In addition, Frommer secured $142 million in federal funds to reimburse California public hospitals for outpatient services provided to Medi-Cal patients in 2002-2003.
Frommer led the fight to crack down on illegal tax shelters, bringing back over $1.3 billion in lost revenues to our state. He also wrote tough new laws to stop accountants and corporate auditors like Arthur Andersen from destroying documents so that companies like Enron cannot shred their way out of financial problems.
He has authored laws to reduce teen smoking, stop runaway film production, ban the sale of cigarettes to children over the Internet, ensure working mothers have proper accommodations for expressing breast milk and prevent the release of MTBE and other harmful contaminants in our drinking water systems.
In addition, Frommer authored the Urban Parks Act of 2001, the state’s first permanent program to help local communities acquire and build new neighborhood parks and recreation areas and secured a critical $12 million from the state to help the city of Glendale preserve 244 acres of open space through the Oakmont Hillside V property.
Assembly Majority Leader Dario Frommer was first elected in 2000 to represent the 43rd Assembly District – which includes the communities of Glendale and Burbank and the Los Feliz, Silver Lake, North Hollywood, Valley Glen and Valley Village neighborhoods of Los Angeles. He and his wife Lorraine live in Glendale with their new baby son.
