Info | My name is Kimberly Sosa I am 48 years old and a grandmother of three beautiful grandchildren. One with a rare metabolic disorder that had a liver transplant last year. I retired in California from a fruitful career with the Federal Bureau of Prisons. My grandson’s illness brought me back home to Pueblo. I have been caring for him ever since.
I am running for Pueblo County Sheriff unaffiliated and as a stand alone candidate. I believe this will help keep my integrity intact. I believe in listening to my staff and believe we must work as a team to have a safe and secure running department and institutions. I want to bring balance back into the Sheriff’s department. Bringing balance means ensuring staff that are doing an exemplary job are recognized but also that staff whom are breaking the rules are also held accountable according to the process. I feel if the issue is trainable then we should offer that opportunity. Ensuring all staff are treated equal and that they are maintaining safety and security of other staff and inmates is my goal. Also, ensuring there is proper training and assistance for staff that are suffering from mental health issues due to the job. I want to ensure that these mental health issues are recognized and everyone has an opportunity to obtain assistance in a fair, respectful, and private manner.
The safety and security of all law enforcement is my ultimate goal.
I have worked in State, Private, and Federal prison systems and in all levels from a psychiatric prison to the Supermax in Florence, Colorado. I have experience in opening a new medium security prison, implementing rules and regulations and integrating new inmates into the institution. I also served on the Disturbance Control Team during my career. I traveled and promoted many times during my career; first to Special Investigations Support Tech (Investigator), then to Lieutenant, and finally Caseworker. I have a degree in Criminal Justice with an emphasis on Homeland Security and Counter-Terrorism. I have written and published 2 books including ‘Steel Bars, Secrets, and Stigmas’ which is my biography working in the prisons.
It is my experience that all law enforcement entities and other parts of the public service system need to communicate and work together to ensure the community can feel comfortable that the system is working toward a safe environment for everyone.
As Sheriff, I can promise I will do my best to have an open door policy, listen to all staff, work a fair system, and provide as much transparency as possible. My goal is run the department with integrity, following all rules and regulations, and utilizing an unbias process.
I hope you will give me the opportunity to share my experience, education, and expertise and work with all of the staff of the department to make positive changes and bring the department into the future of policing.
