Info | Gordon Reid was born in Toronto Ontario in May of 1953. His career, up until 1982, was in the food service industry. He became a house husband that year and went on to keep house, raise 3 children and support his now ex-wife in two careers.
In 1999 he completed a distance education course in Graphics Communication and Web Design graduating with honours. On welfare and with no prospect of a job, "nobody wanted to hire a 45 year old man who's only career was raising his children", he used the knowledge from his course and started a successful community newspaper called The Weymouth Bridge. "I pounded the pavement for a month and found 13 advertisers that where willing to hand over money for a product that was strictly in my head." The paper was a success but being a one-man operation took its toll and the paper folded after 3 years.
One of his greatest achievements is the relationship with his children. He successfully fought in court on behalf of his children to have them returned to school after they where removed to be homeschooled. "I have nothing against homeschooling however that method was not what my children needed." He also fought and received generous custody arrangements. "I have joint shared custody of my children." For the past 3 1/2 years he has seen his children almost everyday as he has them every other day for overnight, taking them to school the following morning.
Gordon is the past president of the Kiwanis Club of Weymouth, founder and charter member of the Sissiboo Speakers Toastmaster Club #507 in Weymouth (Immediate Past President as of July 1, 2003), a former volunteer in the Weymouth policing office and has been recognized from the floor of Province House and in a special resolution on his contributions to his community.
Gordon met the love of his life in 2000 and on November 9, 2002 married his best friend Mary Muise of Yarmouth. They reside in Brighton, Nova Scotia
"Why am I running for MLA? It's a very good question and I'm glad you asked. MLA's are public servants first and foremost. I want to serve the constituents of the riding of Digby-Annapolis. I am the best applicant for the job and by electing me on election day you will get a dedicated employee who will work hard for his constituents to build a better Digby-Annapolis which in turn will foster growth throughout Nova Scotia and beyond"
