| Info | I was raised in South Toms River by a single mom with the help of my grandmother. My mother worked two to three jobs most of the time. My father, a Vietnam vet, also worked two jobs for as long as I can remember. I remember standing in lines as a young child for food assistance at local pantries. I also remember the great fun my family would have enjoying the simple things that we could afford. Childhood memories of Seaside Heights to our east and the Pine Barrens to our west are unforgettable.
At 18, I followed my father’s footsteps and started working midnight shifts in a factory in Lakewood. Eventually, after gaining experience, displaying a strong work ethic, and developing high quality leadership skills, I was hired as a well-paid manufacturing supervisor for luxury cosmetics in Middlesex County.
My deep faith eventually led me to leave manufacturing and enter the ministry. It was the most difficult decision one could make, but it was worth it - because people matter.
For a season of life, it was challenging for my family and children. We eventually bought our first home together, but then the economic collapse of 2008 caused us to short sell our home and start over again. Thankfully, family members jumped in because that’s what families do. A few years later, we rented a home in Brick, only to have it and all our possessions flooded in Superstorm Sandy.
We did what so many of you did. We got back on our feet – again. We finally purchased a home in Bayville. During this time, I organized massive Jersey Shore community service weeks with dozens of churches and thousands of volunteers. I led an Ocean County faith-based initiative, in partnership with the Ocean County Prosecutors office, to inspire tens of thousands of our residents to love their neighbors and stand against racism and prejudice.
I know what is to grow up and live nearly all my life around the seniors, veterans, and working-class families of Ocean and Burlington counties. I am running to represent you because I am you.
My life – like the lives of so many families in our community – is an example of the very best of America. It is that faith in our American way of life – freedom, individualism, and opportunity, that has compelled me to run. The values that helped so many pick themselves back up, time and time again, are under attack. But we know, America’s best days are ahead.
