Info | First elected to Cochrane Council in 1992, Judy Stewart served 6 years a s Town Councillor, and is currently Mayor of the Town of Cochrane, the fastest growing community in Canada. Stewart’s political platform is built on a foundation of public participation, ethical and accountable government, fiscal responsibility, and responsible land use planning.
Judy volunteers in many community projects and regional organizations including the Bow River Basin Council, where she is Vice Chair, and the Terry Fox Run, which she organizes every year. Judy initiated the Cochrane Community Coordinating Council for children’s services, and the Cochrane Sustainable Communities Initiative. In 1992, she received the Governor General’s Commemorative Medal for community volunteerism.
Stewart has served on almost every Cochrane Board and Committee as a council member or community volunteer. She assists in policy development, drafting and bylaw preparation, as well as tree planting, bake sales, and set up crew.
