InfoThe Nebraska Secretary of State was born in York, Nebraska, in 1960. Scott grew up on his family's farm in northern York County and was one of ten people in his high school graduating class at Benedict High School. Secretary Moore then attended the University of Nebraska-Lincoln where he earned a BA with a major in political science and a minor in agriculture. Scott began his career in state government while in college when he was a Page for the 1980 session of the Nebraska legislature at age 19. The next year Scott began working full-time as a Legislative Aide and worked in that capacity until he filed to run for the legislature in 1986. Scott was successful in his bid to represent the 24th legislative district, and at the age of 26 became a member of Nebraska's Unicameral Legislature.

In 1994, Scott embarked on his first bid for statewide elective office when he sought to replace longtime Secretary of State Allen Beermann who decided to retire after 24 years in office. After securing the nomination of the Republican Party, Scott went on to an impressive win in the General Election securing 63% of the vote. In January 1995, Scott was sworn in as Nebraska's 24th Secretary of State. In November 1998, Scott was re-elected to a second term by 65% of the vote. His term will run through January 2002.

In addition to his public career in Lincoln, Scott has remained strongly tied to his rural roots. His father and brother continue to run Moore & Sons family farm operation near Stromsburg, Nebraska. In 1989, Scott was married to Danene Tushar. She is an attorney with the Omaha law firm of Fraser Stryker Vaughn Meusey Olson Boyer & Bloch, PC.
